Sophomore, Towson University: MSEA Student Education Association
We asked members about the significance of MSEA's historic name change:
I joined MSEA’s student program because I like to connect with people with similar interests. I think my membership will give me a much better understanding and grasp of what it takes to be a teacher.
Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve had really positive role models as teachers. My main role model is my high school history teacher, Mr. Michael VanDereedt.
Once I took his class, I became a real student. I left high school with a 3.93 cumulative GPA and 18 AP course credits.
Mr. VanDereedt’s style was unique. For American history, we had debates where every student played a historical figure. In my first, I played Thomas Jefferson and argued in favor of the Bill of Rights. I spent hours learning the material. Alexander Hamilton and I really had it going on!
