August 1 marks the first day in office for MSEA’s new leadership team. Betty Weller, a Kent County middle school English/Science teacher, takes the helm as MSEA’s new president. Weller has previously served as MSEA vice president and treasurer, and is co-chair of the Maryland Council for Educator Effectiveness. Baltimore County elementary school teacher Cheryl Bost steps in as MSEA’s new vice president. Bost has been a member of the MSEA Board of Directors and president of the Teachers Association of Baltimore County. She also serves on the Maryland Council for Educator Effectiveness. Weller and Bost join current MSEA officer Treasurer Bill Fisher of Charles County.
In addition to Weller and Bost, four new members of the MSEA Board of Directors take office on August 1: Richard Benfer (Anne Arundel County), Joe Coughlin (Baltimore County), Lori Hrinko (Cecil County), and Debbie Schaefer (Anne Arundel County). On September 1, Michael Davis (Howard County) will join the MSEA Board when he begins his term as an NEA Director.
