Betty Weller is a middle school English/Science teacher with the Kent County Public School System. She is currently on leave serving as the President of the Maryland State Education Association. Betty began her tenure in this position on August 1, 2012.
As the daughter of a career Army officer, Betty attended public schools in Virginia and Germany. After graduating from Frankfurt American High School in Frankfurt, Germany she returned to the United States to attend Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. There she earned a B.A. in German and an M.A. in Psychology.
Betty held the position of president of her local for twelve years, was elected to the MSTA Board of Directors, and was MSTA Treasurer from 2000 until 2006. In 2006, she left the classroom to serve as the release-time vice-president of MSTA, whose name was changed to MSEA in 2009. Betty was elected president of MSEA in the spring of 2012.
Weller resides in Chestertown, Maryland and has two grown daughters and two grandchildren who all live in the D.C. area.
